ABC is an equilateral triangle. Taking BC as
the base, construct a right angled triangle
equal in area to equilateral triangle ABC.
(The side used as the base should not be one
arm of the right angle).

Step-by-step explanation:

AB² + BC² = AC² ..... Pythagoras theorem ...(1)

ar (PAB) =√3/4×AB²........ equilateral ∆s

ar ( QBC) = √3/4×BC²........

ar (RAC) =√3/4 ×AC².......

Multiply (1) by √3/4 on both sides

√3/4AB² + √3/4BC² = √3/4AC²

.: ar ∆PAB + ar ∆QBC = ar ∆RAC
