Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

ABC is an isoceles triangle if the 2 equal sides are of 5 cm and other is of 4 cm .

To find :-

Find the hight of the triangle.?

Solution :-

Given that

∆ABC is an Isosceles triangle

AB = AC = 5 cm

BC = 4 cm

We can draw three heights (altitudes ) in a triangle

We know that

The height drawn to the base of an isosceles triangle bisects the base and the vertex angle

Let the height be X cm

AD = X cm

AD bisects BC into two equal parts

BC = BD+DC

BD = DC = 2 cm

Now

∆ ABD is a right angled triangle

By Pythagoras theorem

Hypotenuse² = Side² + Side²

=> AB² = AD² + BD²

=> 5² = X²+2²

=> 25 = X²+4

=> X² = 25-4

=> X² = 21

=> X =√21 cm

=>X = 4.6 cm (approximately)

AD = 4.6 cm

Answer:-

The height of the given Isosceles triangle is

√21 cm or 4.6 cm (approximately)

Used formulae:-

  • The height drawn to the base of an isosceles triangle bisects the base and the vertex angle

Pythagoras Theorem:-

In a right angled triangle The square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides.
