Area of triangle= 1/2 × base × height =1/2 × AB × AC

= 1/2 × 5 × 12 = 30 cm.

Now in triangle ABC

Area of triangle ABC = 1/2 × BC×AD

30 = 1/2 ×13 ×AD

AD = 30×2 / 13 = 60 /13 cm.
