(x+y) = 9cm ...............eq¹
(x-y) = 5cm .............eq²
On subtracting eq¹ and eq²
x+y = 9
x-y = 5
(-) (+) (-)
----------------------------
2y = 4
y = 4/2
= 2
On substituting the value of y in eq¹
x+y = 9
x +2 = 9
x = 9-2
= 7
The value of x= 7cm
Value of y = 2cm
