X - y = 8-----------------(2)

Now on adding equation (1) and (2)

we get

X + y + x - y = 12 + 8

2X = 20

$X= 10$

Now putting the value of X in equation (1)

X + Y = 12
10 + Y = 12
Y = 12- 10

$Y = 2$
