first draw the diagonal of the rectangle which is equal to the diameter of the circle so, BD or AC = diameter of circle

using pythagoras theorem in triangle ADB

h^2=p^2+b^2

DB^2=12^2+5^2

DB=\sqrt{144+25}

DB=\sqrt{169}

DB=\sqrt{13^2}

DB=13

as DB=d so, d=13 and r=13/2

now,

ar.of shaded region=ar. of circle-ar. of rectangle

                                =\pi r^2-l*b

                                =3.14*13/2*13/2-12*5

                                =132.73-60

                                =72.72 cm^2
