1. Given data

  ABCD is square.

 So

 AB =BC=CD=DA= 6 (cm)

2. Area of square ABCD =(side)^{2}=(6)^{2}=36 (cm^{2})

3. Given that

   area of \Delta ADF=\frac{area of square ABCD}{3}

   \frac{1}{2}\times DA\times FD=\frac{area of square ABCD}{3}

   \frac{1}{2}\times DA\times FD=\frac{36}{3}

  \frac{1}{2}\times 6\times FD=12

  So

  FD = 4 (cm)
