Here is the answer for your question.

QUESTION :-

ABCD is a parallelogram. If AB = 12 cm and BC = 5cm . Then AC = 13cm.

ANSWER :-

Given :

ABCD is a parallelogram and

AB = 12 cm

BC = 5 cm

To prove :

AC (diagonal) = 13 cm.

Proof :

Imagine ABC as a triangle.

We know that angles of a parallelogram are 90°.

∠A = ∠B = ∠C = ∠D = 90°.

Then , Δ ABC will be a right angle triangle.

According to Pythagoras Theorem,

In a rt angled Δ,

A² + B² = C².

Here in ΔABC,

AB² + BC² = AC²

12² + 5² = 13²

144 + 25 = 169

LHS = RHS

It meant that AC = 13 cm.

AC is also the diagonal of the parallelogram ABCD.

So diagonal = 13 cm.

Hence it proved !!
