Let the distance be x
time taken for the first trip = x/20 hr
time taken for the next (return) trip = x/30 hr
total time taken ( whole trip)
= x/20 + x/30
= 3x + 2x/60
=5x/60 hr
total distance = x + x = 2x ( two times, while going and returning)
avg speed = total distance / total time taken
= 2x /5x/60
= 2x x 60 / 5x
= 24 km h⁻¹
