given probabilities of two scenarios for selecting 2 balls out a number of green and yellow balls without replacement, find probability of selecting yellow on second try if first was green.

Explanation:

  1. let the number of green balls be 'g' and number yellow balls be 'y' then the total number of balls is g+y.
  2. now let A-first ball selected is green , B-second ball selected is yellow and E-first ball selected is green and second ball selected is yellow. then we have,  P(A)=\frac{g}{g+y} =0.5            ------(i)

P(B)=\frac{y}{g+y-1} ->one less due to selection without replacement

3.since events A and B are occurring together,

                         P(E)=P(A).P(B)=0.8   ----(ii)

4.then from (i) and (ii) we get, P(B)=\frac{0.8}{0.5} = 1.6 which is not a real value for

probability. hence, the event is not possible with given data.
