answer : option (D)Rs. 2500

let amount invested at lower rate is x

r = 20% p.a, t = 4yrs and p = x

so, S.I = x × 20 × 4/100 = 4x/5 .....(1)

amount invested at higher rate is (4500 - x)

r = 25% p.a , t = 2yrs and p = (4500 - x)

so, S.I = (4500 - x) × 25 × 2/100

= (4500 - x)/2 .......(2)

given, the sum of interest received by him is 3000

so, 4x/5 + (4500 - x)/2 = 3000

⇒{2 × 4x + 5(4500 - x)}/10 = 3000

⇒8x + 22500 - 5x = 30000

⇒3x = 30000 - 22500 = 7500

⇒x = 2500
