Step 1:

Given Data:  ab i=3a-b+12 i

To calculate the value of a and b:

ab i= 3a-b+12 i

Step 2:

Comparing on both sides then we get:

ab=12 and 3a-b=0

Step 3:

3a-b=0

3a=b

a=b/3------------------------------------- (1)

Substitute the equation(1) we get :

b/3 x b=12

b^2=36

b=√36

b=±6

Step 4:

Substitute when b=6 then

a=b/3

a=6/3

a=2

Substitute when b= -6 then

a=b/3

a= -6/3

a= -2
