Concept:

Majority of the explanations for ratio and proportion use fractions. A ratio is a fraction that is expressed as a:b, but a proportion says that two ratios are equal. In this case, a and b can be any two integers. The foundation for understanding the numerous concepts in mathematics and science is provided by the two key notions of ratio and proportion.

Given:

Able and bill are two friends. Able is carrying silver and bill is carrying gold. They prepare a mixture by mixing metals in proportions 7:2 and 7:11 respectively. If equal quantities of the two metals are melted to form an alloy

Find:

the proportion of silver and gold in the alloy will be?

Solution:

Suppose they mix one kg of gold and one kg of silver

1st mixture contains 7/9 of silver and 2/9 of gold

2nd mixture contains 7/18 of silver and 11/18 of gold

The silver and gold final mixture

                                            =7/9+7/18 :2/9+11/18

                                           = 21/18:1518

                                            =21::15

                                             =7:5

Therefore, the gold and  silver is mixed in the ratio 7:5
