Agree: Yes, exams should be abolished. Not a true test of knowledge- The abilities of students cannot be gauged simply on the basis of exams. It is more a test of memory than knowledge. It promotes rote memory. Waste of time- With many days dedicated to the exam date sheet, children lose many workdays, when they could actually be getting some hands on experience in the respective subjects. Causes stress- Exams are a known source of stress for children, teachers and parents alike. It can drive students towards committing suicide.

Disagree: No, exams should not be abolished.

Evaluation is necessary- Exams help teachers evaluate the understanding of the learners. It helps measure progress. Prepares students for real life- Exams help develop in students the ability to face competition, as they would invariably do in later life. Gives students and teachers a motive- Students will study only because they know they have to fare well in the exams. Similarly teachers will make efforts to teach well, because they need to ensure that the learners score good grades. Without exams, both would be complacent and the quality of education would drop.
