About 80 g of blood is pumped from the heart during each heartbeat. The blood starts at rest and has a speed of about 0.60 m/s in the aorta. If the pumping takes 0.17 s, What is the magnitude of the average force on the blood?

m = 80 grams => 80/1000 kg => 0.08 kg

u = 0 ms-1

v = 0.6 ms-1

t = 0.17 s

F = ?

We know that,

v = u + at

=> 0.6 = 0 + a*0.17

=> a = 0.6/0.17

=> a = 3.53 ms-2 (approx.)

m = 0.08 kg

F = m*a

=> F = 0.08 * 3.53 => F = 0.2824 N

=> F = 0.28 N (approx.)

=>Hence, the average force acting on the blood is 0.28 newtons.
