Answer:

Alimentary canal is also called as the digestive tract. It is the pathway by which food enters the body and solid wastes are expelled from the body. The human alimentary canal has the following main parts:

● Mouth: Alimentary canal starts from the mouth and ends in the anus.

● Stomach: Stomach is a bag-like organ. It receives food from the food pipe.

● Small intestine: It is a highly coiled tube-like structure. The small intestine is longer than the large intestine but its lumen is smaller than that of the large intestine.

● Large Intestine: Undigested food goes into the large intestine. Anus is the opening at the end of the alimentary canal through which undigested food is thrown out.

Alimentary Canal, also called Digestive Tract or Gut, of man is a long (about 8-10 metres) tube of varying diameter.

It is complete as it has both Mouth and anus. It is differentiated into following parts :-------

  • Mouth.
  • Buccal Cavity.
  • Pharynx.
  • Oesophagus.
  • Stomach.
  • Small Intestine.
  • Large intestine.
  • Anus.

Let us Explain all of them one By one.

Explanation:

  • {\boxed{\tt{Mouth\:!!}}}

It is a transverse aperture bounded by movable lips. It is for Ingestion.

  • {\boxed{\tt{Buccal\:Cavity\:!!}}}

It is with following structures :-

  1. Tongue. - It is a thick, muscular and protrusible structure present on Floor of buccal Cavity. It is equipped with taste papillae. It helps in tasting of food, mixes food and saliva, and Facilitates swallowing.
  2. Teeth. - These are present in both the jaws of man and are embedded in the sockets of jaw bones. In man, there are 32 teeth (16 in each jaw) and are of four types (called heterodont) to perform different functions.
  3. So the teeth help in mechanical digestion of food as These cut, chew and grind the food in buccal Cavity which increases the surface area of food for proper digestion.

  • {\boxed{\tt{Pharynx\:!!}}}

It is funnel-shaped part where the food and air passages cross each other.

It has two apertures :-

  1. Glottis :- It leads into voice Box and wind Pipe.
  2. Gullet :- It leads into oesophagus and opens only during swallowing of food bolus.

  • {\boxed{\tt{Oesophagus\:!!}}} (Food Pipe)

It is long, narrow and tubular. It passes through neck and thorax and opens in stomach.

It conducts the food by peristalsis. (i.e., involuntary contraction and relaxation of Muscles to move the food bolus downward).

  • {\boxed{\tt{Stomach\:!!}}}

In the Left side of the upper part of the abdomen that thick, J-Shaped sac present that's is called Stomach. It helps in Mechanical churning and Chemical Digestion of food. It also stores the food. The Mascular wall of stomach helps in mixing of food and gastric juices.

  • {\boxed{\tt{Small\:Intestine\:!!}}}

It is a Long (about 6 metres), narrow, tabular and coiled part present in the abdomen. It is differentiated into anterior duodenum and posterior ileum.

It is mainly concerned with completion of digestion and absorption of food.

  • {\boxed{\tt{Large\:Intestine\:!!}}}

It is shorter and wider than small intestine. It is differentiated into colon and rectum. It helps in formation and temporary storage of faeces.

___________________________

  • {\boxed{\tt{Anus\:!!}}}

It lies at the base of trunk and is for Egestion.
