Nitrogen gas forms 78% but is not available for use as such as plants and animals.For use it must be fixed that is combine with other elements .
1)The atmospheric nitrogen is utilised by prokaryotes,like some free living bacteria in soil (Azotobacter and Clostridium), by certain cyanobacteria (Nostoc, Anabaena and Aulosira) and by symbiotic bacterium (Rhizobium)
2)This process is known as Biological Nitrogen fixation and organism in it known as nitrogen fixation organisms
