Capillaries are the next stop and serve as the location for the exchange of gases and nutrients between bloodand tissue cells. The small vesselsthat drain the capillary beds are called venules, and they lead to larger veins, which are the blood vessels that carryblood toward the heart from various tissues.

The capillaries are thin walled and extremely narrow tubes or blood vessels which connect arteries to veins. The blood from arteries enters the capillaries in the body. Every living cell of our body is close to a capillary. The walls of capillariesare only one-cell thick.
Function of capillaries : The exchange of various materials like oxygen, food, carbon dioxide, etc, between the blood and the body cells takes place through capillaries. The other end of capillaries is joined to some wider tubes called veins. The deoxygenated blood coming from the capillaries enters into veins.
