Cell is the basic unit of life . It is discovered by Robert Hooke in 1665 , while examining a thin slice of cork through a self designed microscope . Cell is a Latin word for 'a little room' . With the help of improved microscope 'Leewenhoek' in 1674 discovered free living cells in pond water . Cell theory was given by two biologists , Scheleiden and Schwann . According to this theory ,
a) All the plants and animals are composed of cells .
b) The cell is the basic unit of life .
A typical eukaryotic cell has three major parts : a) Plasma membrane b) A nucleus , c) Cytoplasm with all the cell organelles
Plasma membrane forms the outermost boundary of cytoplasm . It gives definite shape to the cell . Nucleus is the largest cell organelle . It has a double layered covering called nuclear membrane . The nucleus carries genetic information and it is transferred from parent and daughter cells . Cytoplasm is the fluid content inside the plasma membrane . It contains many cell organelles . Each of these organelles performs a specific function for the cell . Cell organelles present in cytoplasm are (i) Endoplasmic Reticulum , (ii) Mitochondria , (iii) Golgi Apparatus , (iv) Lysosomes , (v) Plastids , (vi) Vacuoles . Some of the organelles are present in large number in cell . Eg : Cells involved in photosynthesis may contain 50 - 200 chloroplasts .Cell.well cell is basic and fundamental unit of our life .It contains many organelles which have particular function s.

WHAT IS CELL ?
- In biology, the smallest unit that can live on its own and that makes up all living organisms and the tissues of the body. A cell has three main parts: the cell membrane, the nucleus, and the cytoplasm. ... Parts of a cell. A cell is surrounded by a membrane, which has receptors on the surface
CELL ORGANELLES :
- An organelle is a subcellular structure that has one or more specific jobs to perform in the cell, much like an organ does in the body. Among the more important cell organelles are the nuclei, which store genetic information; mitochondria, which produce chemical energy; and ribosomes, which assemble proteins
