Rajendra Prasad (3 December 1884 – 28 February 1963) was the first President of India, in office from 1950 to 1962. He was an Indian political leader and lawyer by training. Prasad joined the Indian National Congress during the Indian Independence Movement and became a major leader from the region of Bihar.

Dr. Rajendra Prasad was a freedom fighter, social and political activist, teacher, lawyer who served as the first president of independent India and was re-elected for consecutive 2 times tenure. Rajendra Prasad was a very close aide to Gandhiji and he also participated in all the movements which were started by Gandhiji right from Champaran Satyagraha to non-co-operation movement and as well as in quit India movement of 1942.

Rajendra Prasad was a successful teacher as well as a lawyer; he started his career as a professor in Muzaffarpur and then changed to become a lawyer in Calcutta high court.
