Answer: evaporation may be defined as the phenomenon of change of liquid to Vapour state at any temperature below the boiling point of the liquid

Explanation: the particles of matter are always moving and are never at rest. At a given temperature in any gas, liquid or solid there are particles with different amount of kinetic energy. in the case of liquids a small fraction of particles at the surface, having higher kinetic energy is able to break away from the force of attraction of other particles and gets converted into vapours. this phenomenon of change of liquid into vapours at any temperature below its boiling point is called evaporation. the particles on the surface takes up energy from the rest of the particles or molecules of the liquid. as a result the temperature gets lowered and cooling is caused.
