By constructing small water reservoirs in upstream hilly canyon, rainwater can be harvested to irrigate both hilltop and hillslope areas by pumping and the valley areas by gravity flow. Conversion of fallow land in the areas to irrigated-agriculture with the harvested rainwater will enhance local food security.
