Nature will always take its own course. At least till now, man has not been able to conquer nature, though in their arrogance they do claim to do so. However, tech can be used to predict natural catastrophe. For example, in India  the Meteorological Department predicts rains and storms and advises the fisher folk not to enter the seas.  Likewise, tech can be used in a big way when a natural disaster strikes. Telecommunications become a key in such a scenario.

Natural disasters cause massive loss. Natural hazards like floods, typhoons and tsunamis around the world result in a lot of destruction. In order to mitigate the effects and risks of disasters the World Bank is focusing on two solutions, technology and collaboration.

The bank has launched the 'Code for Resilience' which involves a series of events called 'hackathons' in major cities and seeks to engage members of civil society and the private sector in the cause. One of the technological breakthroughs that emerged from the maiden hackathon was an application that sends emergency alerts to family and friends at the push of a button.
