Raja Rammohan Roy who was born in bengali Brahmin family in $\textbf{1772}$. He studied Sanskrit, Arabic, Persian and later lerant English, Greek, Hebrew, Latin and French. He was scholar of $\textbf{Hinduism, Islam,}$ $\textbf{Christianity}$ and $\textbf{Judaism.}$

Rabindranath Tagore always referred to him as the $\textbf{Father of the Indian Renaissance}$ and the $\textbf{Prophet of Indian Nationalisn}$. He set up the Brahmo Samaj in 1828. One of his greatest achievements in the field of social reforms was his effort to abolish the sati in 1829 with the helo of $\textbf{William Bentinck}$. He was given the title $\textbf{'Raja'}$by the Mughal Emperor. He died in $\bold{1833.}$
