Rabindranath Tagore was a great Indian poet and the youngest son of his parents. Bengal was a leader of the Brahmo Samaj in the 19th century. He took his early education from home while pursuing higher education in England. He went to England at the age of 17 for his formal schooling, however could not complete. His interest and his close association with humanity caught his attention towards making some social reforms towards the country. He then started Santiniketan, a school where he follows the Upanishads’ ideals of education. He also involved himself in the Indian nationalist movement and followed his non-emotional and temperamental ways. Gandhiji was his devoted friend. His love for the country was seen when he returned the honor given to him by the British Government in 1919 as a protest against English policies in the country.

He was a good writer and succeeded in writing in his native Bengal. His continued success in writing enabled him to become a famous voice of India’s spiritual heritage. There are some unique versions of his poems like Manasi, Sonar Tari, Gitanjali, Geetimalaya, Balaka etc. Apart from poems, he was also famous for writing dance drama, music drama, essay, travelogue, autobiography etc.
