The reason it can do this is because it can be made to have a very high molecular weight. The solution used here has a MW of 1,000,000. The solution is basically like a molecular sized bowl of string or beads that pull each other out of the beaker once the initial pour has started.

Polythylene Glycol is also used as a laxative. It is very slippery feeling like mucus and once it is on your hand it is tough to get off!
