The Little Green Orchard is a poem that describes a little girl’s feelings. She feels that there is someone in the orchard whom she cannot see. Even as the sun is high up in the sky and the bees are moving from rose to rose looking for honey, she feels that there is a shadow in the orchard. As twilight falls, the girl claims to hear voices speaking softly.

However, the girl claims that all these do not scare her and refrain her from being there. However, it is definitely strange that someone should be spending his/her time watching and waiting in the orchard even after the day is over.

Walter de la Mare (1873 – 1956) was a British poet, writer and novelist.

In ‘The Little Green Orchard’, a little girl who goes to the orchard feels there is some invisible person wandering around and watching her.

Even in the bright afternoons she feels a shadow hovering over the orchard. When twilight falls she thinks she can hear soft voices. Strangely enough, she stays on till the moon has come out and moths fly around in the moonlight. Though she feels someone is waiting and watching in the orchard, it does not scare her.
