Answer:

A sundial is a device that tells the time of day when there is sunlight by the apparent position of the Sun in the sky. In the narrowest sense of the word, it consists of a flat plate (the dial) and a gnomon, which casts a shadow onto the dial.

A sundial is a clock that uses the position of sun to indicate the time . the rod cast a shadow upon a plane or surface . On this surface are found making that indicate the time by the position of the shadow.

Principal behind sundial :-

The sundial works on the principle that when the sun is at highest point in the sky the image of an object formed by its light is smallest and when it is at the lowest point the image formed is the longest.

More to know :-

You can make your own sundial by using some material like stick, chalk and a watch.

You have to search a sunny spot at any place on ground. At this place, put the stick and hold it upright. Throughout the day, make a mark with chalk for each hour indicating where the shadow falls at that time. Depending on your time, you can make the marks. Now, your sundial is ready and you can tell the time by just looking on the shadow.
