while driving the speed was 340km/h

⇒ he covers the distance x in (x/340)hr

while returning the speed was 60km/h

⇒ he covers the distance x in (x/60)hr

we know that average speed = total distance travelled/total time taken

total distance = 2x

total time taken = x/340 + x/60 = 26x/1020

substituting in the average speed equation we get

average speed = (2x × 1020)/26x = 78.46km/hr
