a) The winds coming down the Himalayas create a cold wave over the Indo-Gangetic plains in the winter season because of heavy snowfall on the Himalayas. This is one of the factors that causes a cold weather season in the Northern parts of India.

b) According to the normal lapse rate, there is a drop in temperature by  1°C for every 166 meters of increase in height. This is because, as the altitude increases, the atmosphere becomes more and more less dense, the pressure drops and the moisture content of the atmosphere also rapidly falls. The capacity of air molecules to hold heat also reduces and heat is less absorbed by the air molecules, hence temperature of air reduces with increase in altitude.

c)The bay of Bengal branch of the south-west monsoon is formed when the south west monsoon splits into two branches due to the triangular shape of the Indian subcontinent. This branch gathers a great deal of moisture flowing over the Bay of Bengal and enters the Andaman and Nicobar islands directly from the sea, without crossing any landmass or any mountain range, hence the Andaman and Nicobar islands receive heavy rainfall from the Bay of Bengal branch.
