Aboy started walking from point P in a straight line and reached point, which was 2 km from point P. After reaching point the boy turned around and walked along the same path to reach point R, which is 0.5 km from point Q. The journey of the boy is indicated in the image below. Study the image and answer the questions that follow a) Calculate the total distance covered by the boy. b) Calculate the total displacement of the boy. c) If the boy takes 30 minutes to walk from point P to point Q. then calculate the speed with which the boy walks from point P to point Q.

Answer:

a) 2.5 km

b) 1.5 km

3) 0.067 km/min,1.12m/s

Explanation:

a) total distance = distance from p to Q and then Q to R

b) displacement is the shortest possible distance between two points

here it is 1.5km

c) speed = distance / time

speed = 2km/30min

speed = 0.067 km/min

or

speed = 2000m/1800sec

speed = 1.12m/s
