Explanation:

Abrin and ricin are potent phytotoxins isolated from the seeds of Abrus precatorius L. and Ricinus communis L., respectively. They belong to a family of plant ribosome-inactivating proteins (RIPs) which inhibit protein synthesis by inactivating ribosomes.

a) Alkaloids are a class of basic, naturally occurring organic compounds that contain at least one nitrogen atom. This group also includes some related compounds with neutral and even weakly acidic properties. Some synthetic compounds of similar structure may also be termed alkaloids.

b) A toxin is a poisonous substance produced within living cells or organisms; synthetic toxicants created by artificial processes are thus excluded. The term was first used by organic chemist Ludwig Brieger (1849–1919), derived from the word toxic.

c) Lectins are carbohydrate-binding proteins that are highly specific for sugar groups of other molecules and so cause agglutination of particular cells or precipitation of glycoconjugates and polysaccharides.

d) A drug is any substance that causes a change in an organism's physiology or psychology when consumed. Drugs are typically distinguished from food and substances that provide nutritional support. Consumption of drugs can be via inhalation, injection, smoking, ingestion, absorption via a patch on the skin, or dissolution under the tongue.
