ANSWER:

Absolute refractive index of glass = 1.5

Absolute refractive index of diamond= 2.4

NOW,

Velocity of light in glass=

we know that ,

Ng = speed of light in vaccum \

speed of light in glass

Speed of light in

glass = speed of light in vaccum \

refractive index of glass

= 3× 10^8 \ 1.5

= 30× 10^8\ 15

= 2 × 10^8m\ s

ALSO,

Velocity of light in diamond=

we know that ,

Nd = speed of light in vaccum \

speed of light in diamond

Speed of light in

diamond = speed of light in vaccum\

refractive index in diamond

= 3×10^ 8\ 2.4

= 30×10 ^8\24

= 3.75× 10^8m\s

NOW,

Refractive index of glass

with respect to diamond = Speed of light in

diamond / speed of

glass

= 3.75×10^8\ 2×10^8

= 375×10^8 \ 200×10^8

= 1.875

Answer and Explanation:

velocity of light in the medium of refractive index μ = c/μ   ; c = speed of                                                      .                                                                                                                  light.

Now , velocity of light in glass = 3*10^{8} / 1.5

                                                  = 2*10^{8} m/s

And velocity of light in diamond = 3*10^{8}/ 2.4

                                                     = 1.25*10^{8} m/s

The refractive index of glass w.r.t diamond = \frac{refractve indexof glass }{refractive index of diamond}

                                                                        = 1.5/2.4

                                                                        = 0.625
