Telophase takes longer than the other stages. As the chromosomes approach the opposing poles, they start to absorb water and thin out, making them more difficult to see. The nuclear membrane and nucleoli begin to emerge at this point. As a result, one nucleus produces two daughter nuclei.

Due to the abnormal protoplasm dehydration, the migration of chromosomes towards the poles halts which leads to the formation of restitution nuclei and when the normal water-relation is restored the chromosomes get hydrated, which allows the reconstruction of the chromonema spirals.
