An abstract noun is a noun that refers to an idea or a general quality. It does not refer to a physical object. Some of the examples of abstract nouns are: goodness, freedom, wisdom, brilliance, poverty, justice, philosophy, anger, peace, happiness, calm, etc. In order to understand abstract nouns properly you should always keep its definition in mind.

So the abstract noun of 'proud' is 'PRIDE'.

Golda: Calm is an adjective, not an abstract noun. Calmness is an abstract noun.

An abstract noun describes the action, state or a quality. They are basically the things which we cannot touch or see or in other words, they are not visible.

In terms of quality, the abstract noun will be goodness, kindness, wisdom, courage.

In terms of action, the abstract noun will be movement, judgment, laughter.

An abstract noun is the combination of adjectives, verbs, and common nouns.

If we will have to find an abstract noun from a verb then for example:

And from common noun Childhood will be an abstract noun from the word child.
