Academic writing is a knowledgeable piece of content written by a researcher or academician, reviewed by peer reviewers, and edited by editors of the respective scientific community. It takes months to years to write and get published an academic paper.

The academic paper includes descriptive writing, formal tone, author's credentials, and list of references they cited, and it helps millions of other researchers to seek subject relevant knowledge.

In contrast, non-academic writing is any piece of information that can be easily published without going through the peer-review process or editing by other writers or editors. But, again, the tone of the writing is informal where the author does not have to mention the credentials, and you don't find any list of references in the article. Non-academic writing is subjected to the mass audience.
