Yes the gravitational can have both negative and positive sign when your dropping the stone from certain height then the gravitational is pulling towards it so the displacement will be positive which mean velocity positive then we say acceleration is positive and the velocity is changing every point of time and when you throw ball upward direction then when it reaches a certain height it's velocity is 0 then it come down it became negative velocity as u = 0 and v let it be 10 downward velocity which means a negative so we can say when take out the acceleration it wii eventually be negative for example -v-0 /1= -v/1 or -a
