Given:

The acceleration due to gravity on the surface of the earth = g

Radius of the earth is decreased to = 1/2

To find:

Find the acceleration due to gravity when the radius of earth is decreased

Solution:

We know that the formula for acceleration due to gravity is:

g = GM/r²

Where G is the gravitational constant,

M is the mass of the earth,

r is the radius of the earth.

Hence if the radius of the earth shrinks to half then the acceleration due to gravity will increase four times.

The acceleration due to gravity will become 4 times of its original value.
