Acceleration on a body can be against the motion or in the direction of motion or there can be no motion but still an acceleration.


If a body is moving the acceleration is in the direction of motion.


If the body is moving against gravity then the acceleration is against the motion.

When a ball is thrown upwards using force, its acceleration is against the direction of motion. The direction of motion is upwards, but the acceleration will be downwards as the acceleration due to gravity.
