Yes, because the rate of change of speed is refered as velocity. so, we can take speed in terms of velocity to obtain acceleration.

as in case of projectile motion , at the top most point Vertical velocity is zero but acceleration is not...as it acts on verticle direction.
when we perpendicularly throw a ball upward then at the top most point velocity is zero but acceleration is non-zero.
