"Access to books created a new culture of reading". This statement can be supported by three examples given below:

  • Earlier the books were handwritten and hence were very expensive. With the invention of the printing press, it became cheap and gradually it's access led to an increase in the literacy rates of many parts of Europe.
  • In early times, reading books was confined to the elites only while common people relied on oral culture which means that knowledge was transferred orally but now books were available easily.
  • Many people were now able to publish their thoughts, earlier which was not possible. What they wrote was now available to a wider population so, the thought process and opinions of many people changed.
