According to a survey, more than 60% students are under stress and suffer

from depression. The newspapers are full of such stories where the students

have taken to drugs just to combat the stress. They feel isolated and dejected. It

appears that they are fighting against the odds of life. Write a letter in 100-150

words to the editor of the Times of India expressing your views on the issue.

Subject:  Problem of stress among teenagers

Sir:

I am writing this letter to express my deep concern over the serious problem of stress among the teenagers. All agree that adolescence is the pivotal phase in any human’s development and growth. It is crucial transitional period from childhood into adulthood. Crucial physical, emotional, mental, and attitudinal changes take place in this period. This is the age of stress and aggression.

Academic deadlines, tests, expectations of the parents and teachers, lack of counseling facilities, fast pace of the current life, materialism, TV, internet, etc. have added to the burden of stress on their delicate shoulders. Prolonged stress can cause serious physical, mental, emotional, and behavioral complications. Headache, insomnia, indigestion, poor concentration, frequent negative thoughts, anxiety, depression, relationship troubles, driving recklessly, drug or alcohol abuse, aggression are a few of them.

The teenagers must be educated and made aware about stress management through techniques such as positive attitude, deep breathing, self-help books, mediation, etc. Kindly publish my views in your esteemed daily to sensitize people about stress. Thanking you.

Yours truly,

Sir

Subject: Stress faced by the students

I would like to draw the attention of all the concerned to the above mentioned problem through the columns of your esteemed newspaper.

According to a survey, more than sixty per cent students are under stress and depression. They feel isolated and dejected. It appears that they are fighting against the odds of life.

It is all due to increasing competition and lack of communication with the elders. The cut throat competition has increased the stress level of the students. Every student is under pressure. So, this is the high time to take some steps to relieve the students from such a pressure. The happiness curriculum, an initiative of the government of Delhi is the only remedy for it. It should be implemented in all the classes in Indian schools. Curriculum should be skill oriented. Every student must participate in games and other recreational activities.

I hope my letter will get an appropriate space in your newspaper to sensitise the authorities to this problem.

Yours faithfully
