HERE IS YOUR ANSWER MATE....;
- People in their 40s and above know about Nehru and his times better than the younger ones. "Most" in this age group regards him highly. Consider him to be the architect of modern India, as one who laid deep foundations for the republic to thrive.
- India had been given a life of 10-15 years before collapsing into a civil war and breaking up into a hundred countries. Nehru and his team saw the threat, the huge centrifugal pressures that were getting built. Pressures stemming not only from caste, language, religion and race, but also due to the feudal nature of society. And they acted proactively to turn these into strength.
- Feudal landholdings were abolished & land distributed to tillers. States were re-organized based on language, so that people could express themselves in the only language they knew (illiteracy was 90% in 1947). Small states were carved out in the North East to address racial aspirations. Religion was kept out of governance. Health care was improved, resulting in the average life-span of Indians shooting up from a mere 31 years (that was a ripe old age to die; for the less well off, it was 28 years) to 56 during Nehru's rein.
HOPE IT'S HELPFUL....:-)
