According to octet rule, the electronic configuration of zinc will be 2,8,8,8,4 and so its valency should be 4 because it will either gain 4 or lose 4 but.. across web its electronic configuration is according to (2n²) formula and it is, 2,8,18,2 and from here we get the valency of zinc as 2. Imma not getting what to do now? how to write electronic configuration according to octet rule or (2n²) formula?

I know this maybe a basic ques but i particularly hve no idea.. someone help me please :(
