According to Ramayana Ravana was the head priest of Ram's Durga puja.

  • In the 'Ramayana', 'Rama' went to 'Lanka' for rescuing Sita, who was abducted by 'Ravana'. 'Ravana' was the king of the Demons in 'Lanka'.  Rama wished for the grace of 'Devi Durga' before starting his fight against Ravana.
  • When 'Rama' heard of this boon from Bibhishana, he decided to pray to the Goddess and want her blessing in winning the war. Thus, despite it being the season of autumn, Ram initiated the ritual of worshiping Goddess Durga.
