Hot and Dry desert : these areas experience very hot temperature throughout the year. Due to less humidity, the temperature swing from the hottest time of day to the coldest time of day may be extreme over 45 C (about 80 F) in some regions. Rainfall is very sparse in these desert and the evaporation rate usually outpace precipitation rates.

Eg. Sahara desert, etc.

Cold Winter desert. Also known as semi arid desert. They have a long and arid summer and small rainfall in winters. The overall temperature is cooler than the hot deserts.

Eg. The Utah, Montane and Great basin desert of USA.
