Joseph and Mary spent the night that Jesus was born in a manger because none of the inns had a room to spare them. According to the Bible, at the time of the birth of baby Jesus, there were no animals present in the manger. However, as soon as He was born, an Angel goes to the shepherds who were grazing their sheep and tells them of the arrival of Jesus. So, they go with their sheep to see Jesus in the manger.
