Krampus is the horned beast that is believed to appear around Christmas time, to punish children for having behaved badly through the year.

Appearance- Krampus is a beast- part demon and part goat. He has the legs, hooves and horns of a goat and the long tongue of a demon. He is hairy and scary looking. He carries pieces of birch wood, to beat up children with, some chains and a sack, in which he puts bad children and takes them away.

History- Krampus is known to have been a part of church plays ever since medieval times. Though originally he was portrayed as being an anti-Christian creature, over time, he has become part of Christian traditions.

Current status- Now, in countries like Austria, during Christmas, Santa Claus/ Saint Nicholas rewards the good children, while Krampus punishes the bad children.
