(D) An attempt to teach students why people conform to crowds

Explanation:

  • The Third Wave began as a classroom experiment by the first year history teacher Ron Jones to simulate fascism during the Second World War and to show skeptical students how the Nazi Party came to power. The Third Wave was a social scientific experiment to understand how the German public tolerated the Nazi regime's actions during the Second World War.
  • During a course in Contemporary World History, Jones found it hard to describe how the German people were able to tolerate the Nazis 'actions and wanted to create a mass movement as an example of the appeal of fascism.
  • As the movement spread out of his class and started to count to hundreds, Jones started to fear the movement was out of control. He urged students to attend a rally in which he suggested it was part of a national campaign and  the announcement of a presidential candidate of the Third Wave would be televised with.
  • The students were presented a blank channel on their arrival. Jones told his students about the true character of the movement as a fascism experiment and presented a short film on Nazi Germany's actions
