The theory of Plate tectonics explains the structure of Earth crust. The Earth crust is the outermost and thinnest layer of earth which is made of various plates of different sizes known as Tectonics plates. It is believed that the crust is made up of 7 major and large plates and several minor plates. It was found the Pacific plate is the largest plate whereas the Juan de fuca plate is the smallest.

The plates shows movement which causes the vibrations of the ground or the earthquakes. It leads to folding, faulting and volcanic activities.

Folding means the upliftment of plates towards another plate when they collide together. This region generally leads to the formation of mountains. Our Himalayan mountains were also formed in this way when the Indo-Australian plate after getting separated from the actual landmass of Gondwana drifted slowly to form the great himlayans mountains in the north.

Similarly, Faulting causes depressions in land and when the plate show movements, the magma insides volcanic mountains comes out and volcanic eruption takes place.

Thus, the theory of Plate Tectonics tells a lot of things regarding the earth crust and activities taking place on them.
